QuestionExplanationAnswer
Which existing data is being considered?

Digital data (collections) acquired prior to start of project (e.g. name of collection)

What should these data be used for (detailed description of questions and goals of the research project)?

Who is responsible for the data?

Are there any legal restrictions (sensisble data, patents, copyrights)?

Who gets access to the data?

Where is the data located?

How big is the amount of data to be considered (e.g. GB/TB and number of objects and files)?

What file formats are present in the collections? (TEI, JP2, MP3, …)

Which tools are being used or are being considered (With links)?

Do data and tools require special software/ systems?

The meteorological section of DTU Wind Energy has a large collection of data including: measurement data, model results, public domain databases, etc.

The whole 'data bank' can be divided in several type of data-sets, which require different storage, archiving and backup solutions.

These are the main data-sets categories identified until now:

  1. data sets released with a publication (e.g. books and reports)
  2. data set published independently, but they are described in a publication
  3. Publications in other formats, e.g. short materials, visuals, software source code.
  4. Other data sets: Measurement data, experimental data, model results, own standard data sets from models, etc.

The meteorological section of DTU Wind Energy would like to catalogue and archive data sets collected the last 20 years. Most of these data are not reproducible. They would like to make data and metadata of these data sets available to the public due to its high value and potential for re-usability.

Main questions:

  • Which repository/archive would be appropriate for these data?
  • Which are the appropriate metadata for these data sets?
  • What are the requirements for archiving these data?
  • Is it possible to create a metadata catalogue?

DTU Wind Energy.

This needs to be revised for data sets released together with other publications, e.g. books.

Data, or at least, metadata should be available for everybody. Acces to the data should not be restricted for scientific use. Commercial use may be restricted.

Data are stored in different locations:

  • some data are only stored in PCs
  • CDs
  • floppy disk
  • disk drives

To be determined when filling the DMP, but relatively small (in the order of GB).

Which new data is being generated within the project?

What is the connection between existing and new data? (Are there data products? Do all datasets need to be preserved?)

What should the new data be used for? (detailed description of research questions aand approach)

Which file formats should the new data be in?

What is the amount of new data created? (Size, number of files / objects)

Does the new data be of value after the end of the project and should be preserved? (if yes, which value and to whom)

Which tools should be used for the new data (with links)?

Is the development of new tools being considered?

The project will be based on the data already collected. However, the solutions found for the data involved this project could be applied for the data that will be generated in the future.
