Project Name: Kommunalvalgsundersøgelsen 2013

Principal Investigator / Researcher: Christian Elmelund-Præstekær

Description: This data management plan will cover the research project on the Danish 2013 Muncipality Elections.

Institution: Statens Arkiver / The Danish National Archives

Data Collection

What data will you collect or create?

In this research project data will be collected through a combination of telephone and webbased interviews. The population is Danish residents aged 18 or older. The interviews will be conducted by TNS Gallup on behalf of the Institute of Political Science, The Southern University of Denmark.

The collected data will be entered into a statistical software package for further analysis. The chosen software package will be able to output data in formats that can be read and entered into other software packages. This will make data shareable with others who use different software packages as well as guarenteeing long-term access to data.

How will the data be collected or created?

Data will be collected by TNS Gallup through a combination of telephone and webbased interviews on TNS Gallups webpanel, "GallupForum."

Documentation and Metadata

What documentation and metadata will accompany the data?

A methodology rapport, a documentation rapport, the questionnaries used for the interviews as well a list of variables/codebook will accompany the data.

Data will be documented in the DDI-L 3.1 (Data Documentation Initiative, Lifecycle) metadata standard by The Danish National Archive.

Ethics and Legal Compliance

How will you manage any ethical issues?

TNS Gallup is responsible for the data collection. Anyone who participates in an interview with TNS Gallup do so anonymously and the answer they give are therefore not available for themselves or others to see, including the researchers.

The answers are anonymized after the interview where they are combined with the other respondents answers for analysis. According to the law TNS Gallup may not disclose the respondents answer alongside their personal information and therefore the identities of the respondents are always anonymized before the results are passed on to third parties.

How will you manage copyright and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) issues?

Data is owned by the primary researchers/The Faculty of Political Science, The University of Southern Denmark.

Storage and Backup

How will the data be stored and backed up during the research?

Data will be used on the researchers own personal computers. Data is anonymized so there are no inherent risks that any personal information will be disclosed.

Data will be regularly backuped on several external storage devices to ensure that data can be recovered in the event of an incident.

How will you manage access and security?

Data will only be accessible by people involved in the research project.

Selection and Preservation

Which data are of long-term value and should be retained, shared, and/or preserved?

The primary dataset as well as any documentation needed in order to understand and interpret data will be retained.

What is the long-term preservation plan for the dataset?

A copy of data and documentation will be handed over to The Danish National Archive for long-term preservation. The Danish National Archive comits to retain the data indefinitely.

Data Sharing

How will you share the data?

Data will be preserved and dissimated at The Danish National Archive where data from earlier projects also is available. The Danish National Archive will make data available through their search engine where they will provide a detailed description of the research project and data. A DOI will also be provided.

Are any restrictions on data sharing required?

Data will be made freely available.

Responsibilities and Resources

Who will be responsible for data management?

The primary researcher will be responsible for data management.

What resources will you require to deliver your plan?

Given the scope of the project no additional specialist expertise or training will be required. The data will be preserved at The Danish National Archive free of charge.
