Highlights in 8.1

• Heritrix updated to iipc version 3.13.0.

  • Note that as a consequence it has been necessary to enable a hard-shutdown mechanism for the heritrix engine. Please inform the developers if you experience any issues related to this change in behaviour.

• Fixed a small but irritating logging bug which was causing log-spam.

• Upgraded the heritrix wrapper dependency. The new wrapper uses a gzip-compression and retries when running scripts on heritrix, and should give much more stable behaviour in the H3 Remote Access section of the GUI.

Obsolete Functionality Removed

• The ViewerProxy has been removed. Users should

  • Disable any ViewerProxy applications still in use and removed their configurations from any deployment files

  • Remove the <siteSection> element referencing QA.war from their GUIApplication settings.

  • If the GUIApplication settings file has a

    <harvester> <viewerproxy>

    section then this should be renamed to

    <harvester> <history>

• The two settings keys

  settings.harvester.viewerproxy.maxSizeInBrowser settings.harvester.viewerproxy.allowFileDownloads

  have been renamed to

  settings.harvester.history.maxSizeInBrowser settings.harvester.history.allowFileDownloads

• All OpenWayback-related code has been removed. In particular, the two applications WaybackIndexer and AggregatorApplication have been removed.

Neither OpenWayback nor ViewerProxy has been actively developed as access or QA tools for some considerable time. Webarchive practitioners looking for access and QA solutions for their archives should consider modern tools such as SolrWayback, pywb.
