The KB pillar is characterized by it's distributed architecture. The pillar consists of several nodes, each consisting of a Windows server with directly attached storage. This makes the KB pillar well suited for processor intensive calculations, but for optimal performance, a highly parallel aproach must also be taken in the design of the pillar software
